Film Society Events

In 2020, after 92 years as a cultural anchor in my small town, the Maplewood Movie Theater closed its doors. The marquee read, "Stay Healthy."

When the town announced plans to redevelop the property, there was a mandate that the historic marquee remain as part of the project, but not a working theater. It became clear that our beloved theater was in jeopardy of closing for good. Determined to ensure that a cinema remains part of our culturally rich community, I partnered with a close friend to form the Maplewood Film Society.

Our mission is twofold: to produce engaging film events that bring people together to celebrate movies, conversation, and the arts, and to advocate for the preservation of Maplewood’s movie theater at the center of our town. The Maplewood Film Society is a non profit 501(c)(3) organization.

As the co-founder of the Maplewood Film society, I wear many hats to bring these cinema events to life. In addition to running point on AV, setting up payment and ticketing systems, and wrangling volunteers, I design digital and print promotions, event signage, and pre-show video loops that entertain audiences as they wait for the movie to begin.
